A Halloween Scare

Well Hannah's first Halloween experience began at our Knock Knock night at church. We enjoyed showing her off as a little ballerina and Conrad enjoyed eating her candy. Then she ventured to her first Halloween party where she met Brett Michaels, Khloe Kardashian, and Brett Farve (i know that's not how its spelled, but it should be)....Soon after we arrived at the party Hannah decided to give me a real Halloween scare. As I was holding her she coughed and got choked on whatever she coughed up. She stopped breathing and immediately my instincts took over and began back thrusts which broke up whatever she was choking on. After a few more thrusts, she began breathing again. Man was it scary! Thankfully I had taken infant CPR and knew exactly what to do, I was already thinking about the next step if it was needed. Somehow I remained calm, which in class they told us you have to remain calm and I thought to myself no way would I be able to remain calm, but I did and it helped. Hopefully we won't ever go through that again, but I recommend anyone who hasn't taken infant CPR and has babies or is around them to do so! I hope everyone had a great Halloween! I will leave you with some pictures of Hannah's first Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Hannahs 1st Trip

Well we took our trip with Hannah to Missouri. Who knew there was so much to pack. I feel like I took everything but the kitchen sink. Here is a little of what our car looked like....
This is just the top layer...We couldn't open the whole back end or everything would fall out. There are 3 suitcases under all that. Oh did I mention this was only a 4 day trip?
Hannah got to meet her other great-gmas

And her 3 cousins

She also enjoyed a wonderful weekend in sports with the Rangers heading to the World Series and Missouri beating OU....Here's the outfit she wore for good luck
We enjoyed visiting with all the family and everyone enjoyed getting to see her finally and while I enjoyed showing her off, I was still a nervous wreck. There was nothing really relaxing about taking our first trip with her. I guess that comes with being a first time parent. With exception of only a few people, I was constantly watching who had her, how she was doing, what people were doing with her, if they were touching her face, were their hands clean,...the list goes on. Poor thing was passed around like a hot potato for most of the weekend. Hannah was an amazing traveler and did so great away from her schedule, bed, and routine.

I love this little girl so much and love nothing more than holding her

Next stop....Texas

The Jeter Situation

Okay I have this crazy obsession of comparing how much Derek Jeter and The Situation look alike that I decided to blog about it and compare 2 pictures. Please look at the smiles, nose, and wrinkles by the eyes. Not to mention their heads are turned the same way in these pictures. I probably never would have thought about it until I watched Dancing with the Stars and immediatly following the Yankees vs Rangers. (Go Rangers!)........

Now you decide.....

5 Weeks

By the title of this blog you might think its an update on Hannah being 5 weeks old today. Well, that she is, but this also marked my 5 week checkup at the doctor (Some have been anticipating this longer than others). I was anticipating the part of getting on the scale to see how much weight I have lost since having Hannah. While pregnant, I gained a total of 70lbs! No, that is not a mis-type...that's right 7-0! Take a moment to let that sink in....40 more pounds and I would have doubled my weight (you can do the math). Well when I stepped on the scale, I lost a whole 30lbs!! I also got the "ok" to use my elliptical machine which will help the process. I still have a while to go, but I'm getting there. With that said, I have to say a few things that do bother me about this whole losing weight after pregnancy. There are some that don't help the process at all and I will break them down into 5 categories.

1. The women that gain a total of 5 lbs during pregnancy

2. The women that cough and magically pop the baby out and immediately lose all the weight

3. The women that eat a cupcake and lose 10 pounds

4. The women that wear their prepregnancy jeans home from the hospital

5. And finally the women that never have to wear maternity clothes

If you are reading this and you fall into one of those categories, I;m not saying I dislike you and props to you for being able to do such a thing. I'm simply saying God made my body totally opposite of that and seeing such women bring down my selfesttem just a little. But, my goal is to be back to or close to pre pregnancy weight by Christmas or close to that date as possible.

PS- as i write this, Conrad is walking Hannah around in her car seat to try to get her to quiet down...magically its working

Things Learned....

Over the past month I have learned a lot about becoming a parent. As a child I had multiple baby dolls and always dreamed of being a mother. Except, when I was younger, I had unrealistic dreams of being a mother. My dolls never cried, never had REAL dirty diapers, they slept all the time, they didn't need fed every 2-3 hours, and when I was done playing with them, they were fine in the corner for days without being bothered. Here are 10 things I've learned that last month:

1. Being on time now means showing up atleast 10 mins late no matter how hard I try

2. Bathroom time (showering, shaving, brushing teeth, washing face...) is no longer a priority

3. There is no such thing as a quick trip anywhere. (Even a "quick trip" to the post office becomes a drawn out process. It takes an extra 5 minutes just to load and unload baby because I can't leave her in the car even though I could be in and out by the time I get her out)

4. Never take eating for granted....I have a hard time finding time to eat, much less finding time to eat my extra 500 calories I need for breastfeeding

5. I've learned to eat, type, cook, dial phone with one hand. Not to mention use my toes to change the TV channel while feeding Hannah.

6. Never forget diapers or an extra change of clothes when you go somewhere!

7. Hannah's laundry will never be finished

8. There is nothing you can do for a screaming baby when they are in the backseat and you are trying to focus on driving

9. Sleep...I think that's what Conrad does at night

10. Like mother, like daughter....I hated sleeping when I was a baby and fought sleep like a champ...so naturally, Hannah is the same way.

Breakdown

Well it happened....I had my first breakdown last night. Hannah started getting fussy around 7:30pm. So naturally I thought she was hungry and she ate. Well the fussiness turned to crying which turned into mad fullout screaming. This went on for several hours going in and out of being fussy, crying, screaming, trying to fall asleep, then starting all over again. Conrad and I took turns trying to console her. We checked her diaper (clean), gave her a bath (clean), checked her temp (98.4), tried to feed her (full and not interested). She had been up for a while and I knew she was exhausted but she likes to fight sleep ALOT! She also had not had a dirty diaper in a while which led us to believe she had an upset tummy (probably from something I ate that she got in my milk) :( Well at about 10:30pm I looked at Conrad and said "Please go get Mylicon drops" (I did say please). Once he left, I tried feeding her again and she was not interested in the least. Did I mention I had a migraine at this point? Well I did and it didn't help that I had a screaming baby in my ear. I sat down in the rocking chair and just started crying right along with her. I think hearing me cry helped her because for once in the last hour she stopped crying. It was that or it was God answering my prayer because through my tears I was praying that she would just go to sleep. Well she stopped crying for about 30 mins while Conrad drove to every pharmacy in Yukon to find Mylicon....apparently we weren't the only family needing it b/c everyone was out. We gave her some mylicon and by 12:30am she was asleep and peacefully sleeping. She slept the rest of the night, got up to eat, and went back to sleep without crying. Today she is doing great and am praying that there will be no more gas issues...atleast for tonight. Again I have to say that Conrad is an amazing dad and husband. Through all the crying Hannah and I did, he kept telling me what a great job I do as a mom and kept telling Hannah how much he loved her too.

PS- I did call her pediatrician first thing this morning and she comforted me, telling me not to worry that she didn't think it was colic, but said it was probably gas and something I ate that hurt her tummy.

A Typical Sunday?

I've been wanting to start a blog for a while now, but wasn't sure how to do so. I tried but failed several times. So, my sweet husband set it up and wrote the first blog giving an overall update on our precious little girl who we love very much already! Its hard to believe she's a month old already and growing so much. As Conrad wrote, she gave us a rough start, but she is doing great now. I could not have made that week in the NICU without my amazing husband. God knew I needed someone much stronger than myself and blessed me with Conrad. He is my hero. With that said, I will begin my blog journey......
On Sunday, it was going to be our first time by ourselves to take Hannah to church AND class. I got up extra early to make sure that I was all ready before getting Conrad up and Hannah ready. Well I got ready, got Hannah fed, changed, finished feeding and was doing really well on time. I was excited to think we were actually going to leave on time and arrive on time. (Something I found out is not an easy task when you have children) Well Hannah decided to have a dirty diaper...so i went to change her and thats when she decided she wasn't finished. When I took the diaper off she managed to poop across her changing table, getting on her changing pad, the basket of lotions..., her socks, and me. Not to mention I ran out of wipes just as this was happening and Conrad was finishing getting ready so he could not hear me yelling his name for help. Eventually we got it all cleaned and her cleaned up and ready to go. Needless to say we were no longer on time and showed up fashionably late. I am guessing fashionably late may become a common thing for us. Next Sunday I will start out even earlier.

Life with Hannah

It was only a month ago that baby Hannah came into this world. She did so under much difficulty. The labor process was 18 hours long and about an hour of pushing followed that. But it was all worth it. We were so excited to spend time with her and also so excited to sleep. I never thought that I would ever be so excited to just drink water. The day after Hannah was born she turned purple on us. We rushed her down to the nursery and her temperature had suddenly dropped almost 3 degrees. This prompted doctors to run some blood tests as they suspected that she had an infection. Turns out she did. Her CRP level in her blood was over 160. Normal level is .1. She had to be taken to the NICU immediately and spent the next 7 days on antibiotics. It was the hardest week of our lives but we made it through and Hannah ended up to be just fine. She is now getting so big and is really doing well. Thank you to everyone who has helped us by spending time with us or bringing us a meal.
